Little Bits for a Monday

January 31st, 2011

There are few things more refreshing than artists with a sense of humor. This funny, and also rather pretty, rendition of “Tiny Dancer” was made by Passenger, Old Man River, along with special guest Daniel Lee Kendall, to celebrate and poke fun at the former’s upcoming One for the Road Tour. While I am generally something of a purest when it comes to classics like this, I must say that they have done the Tiny Dancer proud. It seemed a good way to start the week.

Even better, you can download a copy of the song for free over at Hub Artist. Simply enter the unique Code: OFTR2011As. As is typical, you will also have to part with you name and email address.

In case you missed the melancholy news, Mark Bittman Esquire has written his last Minimalist column. While we shall all mourn the loss … Continue reading

I Follow Rivers

January 28th, 2011

I was thinking about saving this video for a Bits post, but I’m just to excited to share it with you guys. Remember my love for Lykke Li? Well just yesterday she debuted her latest music video for the song “I Follow Rivers” off her new album Wounded Rhymes.

The video was directed by Tarik Saleh, stars Miss Li with the Swedish/Lebanese actor Fares Fares, and was shot on the deadly beautiful island of Gotland, Närsholmen. According to Lykke Li’s website, the video follows in the footsteps of Andrei Tarkovsky’s “The Sacrifice”.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! What are your plans? We will be starting our weekend out in style, with the Seattle Opera’s finale showing of The Barber of Seville. I love the opera; the glamor, the gowns, the music, the theatrics. We attend this sort of high-class function so rarely, the novelty … Continue reading

Put a Bird on It!

January 26th, 2011

Oh lordy. Cracking up this morning over the “Straight up got dust in my eye!” clip from Portlandia, a hilarious commentary on trends in craft/design. Guilty as charged people. Though my birds at least have a childhood story behind them…

Little Bits for a Monday

Good morning lovelies! Today’s music comes to you from noted cat lady and fantastic musician Best Cosentino, of Best Coast. This gem of a video was premiered exclusively on the cat lover’s online temple icanhascheezburger (probably a first all round) because kittens are cute and well…

For all of you Austinites out there, Best Coast will be playing at Emo’s tomorrow night at 7pm! Wish I could be there with you!

If you’ve been seaching for that perfect accent piece for your living room or bedroom, look no further America. Whether you’re Ursula the Seawitch or just have a flair for the dramatic, this octopus chair by Maxi Moriera is perfect for you.

Naturally, now that pristine drifts of snow have given way to the omnipresent sogginess of a true Northwest winter, I have finally found my dream pair of winter boots. Behold, in all their … Continue reading

Scrum-ptious

January 20th, 2011

Ah puns…how we love you. I’m feeling particularly resentful that this morning had the impudence to dawn as Thursday when the length of my week would make Friday far more appropriate. Is there a cup of coffee large enough to forgive this offense? I think not, though Starbucks has recently offered the public their new swimming pool sized cups. But fear not my dears (and most especially you ladies), I have just the thing squirreled away.

Behold: Moschino has sprinkled Italian rugby players into its usual model mix for the Autumn 2011 runway presentation.

This created the lovely game of “spot the rugby player”. Judging by the giraffe-like nature of most model’s necks (male and female), I’d say the chin-to-neck ratio is a dead giveaway. Enjoy chickies and tell me if you think I’ve got the rugby players right.
