Little Bits for a Monday

Little Bits for a Monday

March 28th, 2011 9 Comments

For technical reasons, I was unable to share the music I’d planned for today’s Bits. I am, however, always pleased to promote a local band. If you haven’t yet heard of The Head and The Heart, indie-folkies from our very own Seattle, you soon will. This track, “Lost in My Mind”, is off last year’s debut album. Let me know what you think:

When I first discovered the blogosphere, my two favorite sites were Orangette (naturally) and 101 Cookbooks. While the ranks of my Reader have now swelled to nearly 75 blogs, these two will forever remain at the top of my list for their recipes, honesty, wit, and what can only be described as killer photography. I’ve been waiting with bated breath to get my hands on Heidi’s new book, Supernatural Every Day, and was so pleased to read that she is coming to Seattle for a book signing next month! If you’ve never tried out one of her recipes, Heidi has kindly made several from her new book available as a free PDF download. Give ‘em a whirl, you won’t be disappointed.

Speaking of recipes, after my foray into pretzels I have determined to try my hand at bagels. No sooner was my mind made up then up pops this recipe on The Wednesday Chef. The universe provides people. I shall report back shortly on any successes or failures in the bagel department.

This weekend, Jacob and I finished up The Millennium series with The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest. (Side rant: Please, Hollywood, cancel your sad attempt to remake this gem and stop plundering foreign language films.) Now I’m usually not one to get carried away with wild whims, but damn, how can you not want a mohawk after watching this? Maybe that could work out when I’m done being blond…hmmm. In the meantime, I’ll just try this bad boy out:

I am a sucker for all things Jon Hhhamanama…Jon Haamanam…ahem, Jon Hamm. Mercedes Benz never sounded so good. Like many of you ladies out there, I’ve been awaiting the purported start of Mad Men’s 5th season with increasing frustration. So this post spotted over at Miss Moss (talented blogger and fellow Maddict) summed up my feelings exactly.

Great music choice! I had never heard of them but purchased the album- can’t wait to hear more. Also a big fan of Orangette blog- recently discovered another blog through Orangette that I think is a real gem (http://lookimadethat.com/).

Yes! I recently found “I Made That” as well after reading Molly’s post about The Pantry. Wonderful stuff, eh? Thank you for your comment and I’m glad you liked the music!

I first started with 101 Cookbooks and Smitten Kitchen as blogs to read. I can’t wait to get Heidi’s new book.

Oh my god. Making bagels was one of the best things I ever did – they are so easy and so worth it to make yourself! Best of luck!
