Nine Months Ago

June 9th, 2016 4 Comments

Buckle up. This is a long one. This is the post I’ve been thinking about writing, and then changing my mind about for the last nine months. Now, as my little man (born nearly nine pounds, on the ninth day of the ninth month, nine months ago to the minute) begins life longer “on the outside” than he was on the inside, it seems like the right moment. Still, I vacillated even while writing between feeling like I was sharing too much and not enough. As a doula, birth is a subject close to my heart. This was never meant to be a complete documenting of our birth (I won’t get into the many walks we took, the cake I baked, or the point at which I tried to prune our hydrangeas), but my hope is that in sharing this glimpse into our story, I might help other women in … Continue reading

Q is Six Months Old!

March 9th, 2016

Hard to believe, but yes, our little man is six months old today. Where, oh where did the time go? No time for waxing poetic, here’s a look back over the last three months since our last photo barrage.

Christmas was special, seeing the lights and color through his eyes. I imagine the years to come will be even more so!

Sleeping is still our nemesis. Or not sleeping itself, but sleeping by himself. I snapped this picture the single, solitary time I was able to get him to nap in his little bassinet for more than 10 minutes. He did 45 minutes that time (me watching him like a disbelieving hawk the entire stretch) and has refused to repeat the performance. But isn’t he just an angel? Le sigh.

True to his roots (I’m a notorious bookworm), Q is obsessed with books. In fact, he comes the closest … Continue reading

Three Months

What what what?! It seems impossible but yes, Mr. Quentin is three months old today. I’ve snatched a few moments to share some photos from the past month or so (excuse the low quality cell pics…it is now a rare event indeed for mama to be able to bust out the real camera). I would also like to make it known that I do intend to return to other topics one day, but I know you will forgive this doting mother, as my whole world is currently contained within this little man. At any rate, whilst you peruse the below photos, here’s a season appropriate song for your listening pleasure:

Our tiny fellow has developed such personality: charming, engaged, flirtatious, rascally, cuddly, adoring, precocious, curious, funny, alert, and just as he was in my belly, super active! We are so hopeless in love with him.

It’s such a treat and … Continue reading

In Gratitude

Incredibly, Quentin is one month old today. The time has at once flown and dragged painfully by (3am feedings, I’m looking at you) through this period of what someone dear recently, and very appropriately, described as “bootcamp.” Certainly we’re experiencing both extreme psychological and physical challenges, though there is more muscle atrophy than muscle building happening currently.

As some of you know, Quentin’s birth was not an easy one. Certainly very few birth stories are especially easeful, but ours was one for the books. I wanted to take a moment today to thank all of you, my dear ones, who gathered around us in those early days, and those special few whose sustained support has been invaluable in the weeks since. I had grand visions of sending out proper thank you cards to each of you angels, but all hopes of that have flown to the wind along with such … Continue reading

He’s Here!

On September 9th, we welcomed Quentin Thomas Dubail, a big healthy boy at 8 lbs, 10 oz and 21 inches long. He’s such a special little being, and we’re completely enamored already.
