Little Bits for a Monday

March 28th, 2011 9 Comments

For technical reasons, I was unable to share the music I’d planned for today’s Bits. I am, however, always pleased to promote a local band. If you haven’t yet heard of The Head and The Heart, indie-folkies from our very own Seattle, you soon will. This track, “Lost in My Mind”, is off last year’s debut album. Let me know what you think:

When I first discovered the blogosphere, my two favorite sites were Orangette (naturally) and 101 Cookbooks. While the ranks of my Reader have now swelled to nearly 75 blogs, these two will forever remain at the top of my list for their recipes, honesty, wit, and what can only be described as killer photography. I’ve been waiting with bated breath to get my hands on Heidi’s new book, Supernatural Every Day, and was so pleased to read that she is coming to Seattle … Continue reading

Little Bits for a Monday

March 21st, 2011

Happy Spring my darlings! As previously stated, I wait with bated breath the arrival of the sun and flowers of the warmer seasons. Though today dawned as grey as last Monday, I know we are that much closer. I can practically smell the musk of sun-warmed skin, can nearly taste the tart bite of lemonade.

And to get us off on the right foot today, may I present a video positively dripping with talent and genius. This new video from The National stars the silver fox himself, Mad Men’s John Slattery, and was directed by The Daily Show’s writer, Scott Jacobson. Genius I tell you. The song is “Conversation 16” off the The National’s new album, High Violet.

Five Years

February 25th, 2011 5 Comments

Five years ago today, Jacob and I had our first date. As if that number isn’t crazy enough on its own, as I’m 25, that translates to 20% of my life! What! We are heading up to Vancouver BC today for a romantic mini-break. I can’t wait!

Thank you so much, my love, for being there for me through thick and thin, the amazing, heart-stopping times (Joshua Tree, San Diego, Florence, the list goes on…), and the mundane, head-meets-wall times (endless dish washing, moving, job changing, oh yes…). You are the best, most caring man that I know and I have nothing but love, respect, and adoration for you. I am the luckiest, happiest girl around. I love you!

But wait, who’s that blonde girl kissing my boyfriend!?

Ha! Here you go at last my chickies: the result of my hair adventures. What do we think?

Hair Adventures

February 16th, 2011 5 Comments

This weekend I have an appointment at my favorite Aveda salon for a hair coloring. I have been ridiculously lenient to my hair over the years, playing with wash-out color all of two times, and partial highlights but once. I’ve donated 12 thick inches to locks of love. Twice. I’m thinking all of this is money in the proverbial hair abuse bank. I’m thinking it’s time for a dramatic change. I’m thinking red…or (sweet baby Jesus!) blonde. I’ve been waffling back and forth for days and shall now open the floor for votes.

I am in love with Tess’s red locks over at Demure Folk. I also love the darker colors which have at one time adorned the heads of ScarJo and Kate Walsh.

For the Ladies

November 10th, 2010

To all my dear readers of the male persuasion: sorry guys, today’s post is for the ladies. Promise I’ll sneak in a few extra explosions and Star Wars references for you soon.

I recently grew out my hair after keeping it chin-length for a few years. For now I am safely in the honeymoon stage with my longer locks, pinning, braiding and up-doing with an inordinate amount of excitement. However, I am wary of the ease with which I have fallen into coiffure ruts in the past (messy bun everyday anyone?) and so I’m constantly on the lookout for inspiration.

So it comes as no surprise that upon discovering this gorgeous side chignon I knew I had to share it for the health of our collective hairy repertoire. The instructions are incredibly simple and can be found here.

Add a bit of blood red lippy and even in a … Continue reading
