Laura Mvula: Sing To The Moon

April 19th, 2013

This has been a troubled week. While we mourn our losses and search our souls for answers, I believe it is important to persevere in the things that bring us joy. I have been back in the studio this week (you can see some previous posts on my art here, and here, and here). In addition to my work, what I’ve found to always help heal my psyche is discovering and enjoying new music.

I found Laura Mvula via NPR’s First Listen, and was captivated by her unique sound. The folks at First Listen expertly describe it as: “agelessly soulful vocals, girl-group handclaps, and a heavily Vocoder-enhanced chorus.” You can stream the full album here. You can also listen to and enjoy the completely wonderful video for her song “Green Garden” below.

I hope you enjoy and I hope the day is drawing closer when … Continue reading

If I had to name my “favorite” (living) band, it would be a battle of epic proportions between my beloved Lykke Li, and The National. Bonus: The first episode of Mad Men‘s 6th Season aired last night. Consequence of Sound expertly notes: “It’s a shame Mad Men only uses music of its era, because god damn are Beringer and Don Draper … Continue reading

Little Bits for a Monday

March 11th, 2013

Happy Monday my darlings. Spring is just around the corner! Thank heavens. Today I’d like to share with you a song that’s been roaming round my head since happening upon it a few weeks ago (shout out to Tommy!). Enjoy while you peruse the rest of the post!

Lightning's Girl by Nancy Sinatra on Grooveshark

How was everyone’s weekend? Ours was full, as was the week previous. Though I was down with my first cold of the year, we did manage to get some key measurements at our wedding venue, lock in the catering, and have a nice walk about the land.

We even managed to plant the start of our garden! So far we have strawberries and peas in the ground, and butternut squash, cilantro, mint, and broccoli in the seedling tray. Much more to come!

My wellies have been earning their keep being out in the garden and … Continue reading
