We Are All Stardust

January 11th, 2016

Last night a little magic went out of the world with the death of the incomparable David Bowie. Many much more eloquent, and significantly more rested tongues than mine are/will be singing the praises of this great artist, but I wanted to share my own little celebration of his life. Thank you Ziggy Stardust for the music, style, and wonder you brought to the world. And for Jareth the Goblin King.

As another fun snippet, here is a link to his Formative Reading List, featuring 75 of the artist’s must-reads and including such gems as A People‚Äôs History of the United States by Howard Zinn and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

Lastly, let us console ourselves knowing that while Tilda Swinton lives, Bowie can’t really be gone (because clearly they are in fact one person)…and that, when you get right down to it, we are all made up … Continue reading

Waiting

September 4th, 2015 1 Comment

They call it an estimated due date. Yet after 40 weeks of responding to seemingly endless “When are you due?” inquiries, one does tend to put more weight than is strictly prudent on said date. For us, yesterday was that day. September 3rd. The great Response. But instead of having a baby (in fairness, only 5% of women give birth on their due date), I spent the day tidying up for the umpteenth time and engaging in a bit of light pruning. Gilding the Nest

April 17th, 2015

Hello all you wonderful people! Happy Friday to you, and a beautiful sunny day it is at that.

First off I wanted to share a truly lovely song for your afternoon. It’s no secret that I like a good cover, still less that I love harmony, and this represents both with a vengeance. Performed by The Staves, a sister trio out of England, this take on The Boss’ “I”m on Fire” is ethereal and completely gorgeous. Even better, check out this version with Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon, who produced the sister’s second album, If I Was.

Things have been moving along for us; time streaming along in its relentless flow. Yesterday marked the half way point in my pregnancy, which is at once a surreal and wonderful feeling. We’re suddenly extremely aware of the narrowing weeks between us and the birth of our little one, and … Continue reading

Happy Holidays

December 19th, 2014

Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season! As a little gift for being so wonderful, here’s a little playlist of Christmas classics for you to enjoy with a hot cuppa while gazing at Colin’s glorious sweater.

Update: due to my longtime music streaming site being shut down, this playlist is not currently available. I am looking into alternatives and ways to recover my library. Thanks for your patience!
