“Couplings” Art Opening

“Couplings” Art Opening

February 7th, 2011

Hello my dears! I hope you all had a good weekend and (if you’re a football fan) a fun Super Sunday! We spent most of ours continuing the great house hunt, and I am happy to report that we put in an application on a very sweet little place, so fingers crossed…

I wanted to give you a glimpse of last weeks “Couplings” opening. First, here are a few photos from the installation.

My painting and two photographs by Rebecca Finley.

It was a lovely evening, with many of the featured artists and their families, the gallery’s represented artists and staff, and others present, munching the obligatory cheese and crackers and sipping on wine. The following night, during Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Art Walk, the gallery reported 500 visitors!

(Left to right) Jim Sienkiewicz (2 pieces), Yun Hong Chang (on pedestal), Karen Hackenberg.

It was so fun to meet and talk with the other guest artists, as well as those already with the gallery. The Juror, Rock Hushka, gave a wonderful speech and description of his criteria before announcing his Juror’s Choice Awards.

I am pleased and honored to say that my painting won the Juror’s Choice Runner Up! A great photograph by Rebecca Finely won the Juror’s Choice (see images above).

The show was also reviewed in the Seattle Times, with my painting as the featured image! Very exciting indeed. I can’t wait to get back to the studio.
