I could hardly contain my excitement this morning when I stumbled across this trailer for Sylvain Chomet’s new animated film. If there is one thing I adore and respect it is well rendered 2D animation. The painstaking detail and repetition of this art form can never be outdone by computer generated 3D (which is not to say that I do not love me some Pixar). In his new work, the genius behind Les Triplettes de Belleville, brings to life a 40 year old script by the legendary and comedic French filmmaker Jacques Tati. Chomet’s encore piece ostensibly revolves around the inevitability of change which, it must be noted, is rather pertinent to the dying art of hand-drawn and hand-painted animation. I hope you enjoy the trailer as well as the few stills below. The film opens Christmas Day 2010.
