The Yucatan Part I: Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza

Hello my lovelies! This year for our joint birthday celebration, we sneaked away for a week on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Our first stop was the rather touristy, Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean Sea (which, incidentally, we never did swim in there). We were lucky enough to find the sweetest little boutique hotel called Hotel la Semilla at what I can only describe as the good edge of town (quiet, pleasant, away from the crowds of Quinta Avenida, Fith Avenue). This little haven honestly made the whole experience of Playa for us, and turned out to be our favorite accommodations of the trip.

We did a lot of walking around the bustling little town, seeking out the best tacos and looking in vain for any shops not selling the same ubiquitous souvenirs. A notable meal was in one of the oldest restaurants in Playa, La Cueva del Chango, conveniently … Continue reading

Hello all you wonderful people. I hope you are all well and enjoying this, the new year. Spring is in the air already (even if it may be a false hope), the daffodils and tulips are pushing their way towards the sun, and soon I will be back with more news and stories to share. For now, I wanted to offer a few snapshots of the recent months which, as ever, have been blowing by.

At least the vineyard has been producing amazingly well!

Making friends again:

Ice-crusted rosemary:

Strange fruit:

Happy Holidays

December 19th, 2014

Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season! As a little gift for being so wonderful, here’s a little playlist of Christmas classics for you to enjoy with a hot cuppa while gazing at Colin’s glorious sweater.

Update: due to my longtime music streaming site being shut down, this playlist is not currently available. I am looking into alternatives and ways to recover my library. Thanks for your patience!

All Fang, No Sparkle

December 12th, 2014

I rarely review movies on dizzy, but after watching Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, I could barely keep myself from jumping off the couch to tell you all about it right then and there. Not only does it feature a scene wherein shirtless Tom Hiddleston, complete with lank, black rocker hair and leather pants, licks on a blood popsicle (bless you Jim), but the film resoundingly obliterates the sparkling travesty that has been passing as the genre’s flagship for far too long. And that right there may be enough to recommend it! Don’t go in expecting any gory neck biting or climbing up the wall action scenes. This is a dreamy love story between Hiddleston’s Adam and the incomparable Tilda Swinton‘s Eve (whose truly glorious mane was allegedly enhanced with yak hair). Clearly drawing inspiration from old school Anne Rice, the film somehow manages to make … Continue reading
