Dizzy Swallows

This week Jacob and I have embarked on something of an adventure together. We are undertaking a spring cleaning of our bodies. Weapon of choice: the master cleanse. We are currently on day two, of at least a three day fast. Eight if we’re ambitious. Ten if we’re slightly insane. Considering all I could think about from 5pm until I fell asleep last night was a giant plate of phad thai, I’m guessing we won’t make it to eight days.

I’ve done juice fasts fairly regularly (meaning perhaps once a year for 2-5 days) since before college but this is a beast of a different nature. The master cleanse officially includes drinking salt water (ugh) and laxative tea (gah), but we’re happily forgoing such things. Instead, we are drinking the following concoction 6-12 times per day:

2 Tbsp. organic maple syrup
2 Tbsp. fresh squeezed organic lemon juice
1/10 tsp. ground cayenne pepper
8-10 oz filtered water

Delicious, eh? Actually, it isn’t half bad, but I’m sure we will be woefully bored of it in no time at all. Mint tea is also considered acceptable. We’ll see. Thus far I am feeling quite good and very awake. I wouldn’t say I am hungry as much as craving food.

Have you ever done a fast or cleanse? I would love to hear.

  1. Ahhh, good luck! Sounds like a miserable few days if you ask me 😉 I’ve never done ANY sort of cleanse, but I’m thinking of doing a juice one. Or green smoothies at the very least.

First time seeing your engagement photos – they’re gorgeous!! (I couldn’t find where to comment on that post). You two make such a sweet couple. When is the wedding? Congratulations!! xo

Thank you Shannon! I would definitely encourage you to try a juice cleanse! Just make sure you have enough variety, and give it a good try for at least 2-3 days.

Thank you also for your sweet words on our E-session! We had such fun shooting it! Yes, comments close after a period of time…maybe I’ll change that. Our wedding is in July, so still a bit of time but there’s so much to do (as you know)! Your wedding photos were also completely gorgeous. I loved the ones in the row boat. Good to hear from you!
