This week, two as-yet-unreleased albums from two of my most favorite artists were made available online.
The first can be found on here, on NPR’s First Listen, as is nothing less than Mazzy Star‘s first album in 17 years. Praise be. Titled Seasons of Your Day, the album will be released September 24. If you aren’t already a fan of Mazzy Star, you can thank the cult classic for influencing the woozy sound of such contemporary bands as Beach House and Dum Dum Girls (both great). Mazzy Star, with singer Hope Sandoval, did darkly psychedelic before it was vogue. Below, you can hear the album’s single, “California”.
Speaking of the dark and stormy, this week also offered the first experience of Trentemøller‘s upcoming album, Lost. As a huge fan of the Danish electronic producer (questionable hairstyles notwithstanding), it has been quite gratifying to stream the full album via Pitchfork here. Though I have yet to decided whether it lives up to the lofty achievements of the debut album, The Last Resort, by Anders Trentemøller own admission he eschews any recognizable sound.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
