Little Bits for a Monday

November 11th, 2013

Hello my lovelies! Today I am thrilled to share with you a band that has been on repeat in our home for the last month. Wouldn’t you know, it is another Swede. Karin Dreijer Andersson goes by the stage name Fever Ray, but you may also recognize her voice from the electronic music duo, The Knife, which consists of Karin and her brother Olof. Her debut, self-titled album is one of those rare finds which I am happy to listen to beginning to end. Over and over. Everyday. Below, you can hear my favorite track, “When I Grow Up.”

Speaking of the Swedes, have you heard of Hövding, the invisible bike helmet? Try and spot it in the photo below, and if that interests you, be sure to watch their 3 minute documentary video here.

“In the summer, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.”
― Margaret Atwood

Hello lovelies. Of late I’ve been trying to squeeze these beautiful summer days for all they’re worth, picking blackberries (and making jam!), taming shrubberies, sunbathing, eating al fresco. There has been a suspect chill breeze blowing in from the north, but I’m not ready to even start thinking about Fall.

For today’s Little Bits, I thought I’d share a great cover by Haim (incidentally, check out their humorous video for “The Wire” on their website). This video is from triple j’s Like a Version series, and features the LA sisters covering Sheryl Crow’s song “Strong Enough.”

We just got our first haul of tomatoes from our bountiful CSA and I’m thinking there’s a few batches of delicious salsa in our future. Here is a scrumptious looking recipe from Joy the Baker.

It’s been so long since I posted a Little Bits! Wow. This morning I’d love to start you out with a light summer ditty by Chris Malinchak, “So Good to Me.” The video is a cute little thing, and reflects my attitude last week when Sita decided to stay out all night before coming home at 6am from what Jacob describes as “a bender.”

Speaking of The Destroyer of Worlds, she recently made her first kill. Appallingly, it was a baby bird, which she triumphantly deposited on the rug before us. Bad kitteh!

Summer is nearly here! I’ve been lusting over soft chambray for a while now, and would so love to sport this classic western style from Madewell. How cute would this be matched with white lacey shorts!

Photographer Léo Caillard recently came up with a hilarious series of work in which he dressed classical … Continue reading

Happy Monday my darlings. Spring is just around the corner! Thank heavens. Today I’d like to share with you a song that’s been roaming round my head since happening upon it a few weeks ago (shout out to Tommy!). Enjoy while you peruse the rest of the post!

Lightning’s Girl by Nancy Sinatra on Grooveshark

How was everyone’s weekend? Ours was full, as was the week previous. Though I was down with my first cold of the year, we did manage to get some key measurements at our wedding venue, lock in the catering, and have a nice walk about the land.

We even managed to plant the start of our garden! So far we have strawberries and peas in the ground, and butternut squash, cilantro, mint, and broccoli in the seedling tray. Much more to come!

My wellies have been earning their keep being out in the garden and … Continue reading

Hello all! This morning I wanted to share a song that’s been resting in my ear of late. It may seem odd to some, but it comes courtesy of Black Sabbath. The song is “Planet Caravan.” I hope you enjoy it too!

We have recently been plowing our way through old episodes of The West Wing. In stark contrast, it was interesting to come across this Huffington Post article about the President of Uruguay. Mr. José Mujica lives in his own run down apartment, donates 90% of his salary to charity, and has a net worth of about $1,800. “It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, who is poor,” he says. Makes one think.
